Hawaii Governor

Hawaii Governor is the chief executive officer of the state of Hawaii and its various agencies and departments.

It is outlined in Section V of the Hawaii State Constitution, Sections 1 through 6.

It is a directly elected position, votes cast by the popular suffrage of the state’s residents.

The governor is responsible for enforcing the Hawaii state legislature’s laws and complying with the Hawaii state judiciary rulings.

The role includes being Commander-in-Chief of the Hawaiian Armed Forces and having the power to use those forces to
execute laws, suppress riots and violence, and repel invasion.

The Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii becomes interim governor if the office is absent from the state or if the person is unable to perform the powers and duties of the office.

Historically, the governor of Hawaii was from the Democratic Party of Hawaii or the Republican Party of Hawaii.

The current governor of Hawaii is Democrat David Ige, who took office on December 1, 2014.

Hawaii was the first US state to have an Asian-American CEO; George Ariyoshi served three terms between 1974 and 1986.

David Ige, the Governor of Hawaii

Governor David Ige: Ige swore in as the eighth governor of Hawaii’s state on December 1, 2014.

Governor Ige was born in Pearl City and is the fifth of six children from Tokyo and Tsurue Ige.
He is the first governor of the United States of Okinawan Descent.
He joined public schools in Pearl City and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Hawaii University at Mānoa, where he met his wife, Dawn Amano-Ige.
After college, Governor Ige earned a Masters in Business Administration in Decision Science from UH Mānoa during his 18-year career at GTE Hawaiian Tel.
In 1986, Hawaii Business Magazine named him one of the university’s top ten MBA students.
He became a successful electrical engineer and project manager with a 34-year career in information technology, telecommunications, networks, and responsible public order.
Governor Ige started his political career in 1985 after then-Governor George Ariyoshi selected him to fill an empty seat in the Hawaii House of Representatives.
In 1994 the then representative Ige was elected to the Senate of Hawaii, where he represented his home district ‘Aiea / Pearl City’ until 2014.
The governor and Mrs. Ige have three children, Lauren, Amy, and Matthew, who are currently pursuing their careers in the mainland.

Incumbent

The eighth (8) and current Governor of Hawaii is David Ige; he was first elected in Nov 2014 and sworn in on December 1, 2014.
David Ige replaced Neil Abercrombie (D) during a swearing-in ceremony on December 1, 2014.
He was re-elected for a 2nd term in 2018. Before his inauguration, Ige was a member of the Hawaii Senate from 1994 to 2014.

David Ige comes from a big Family

Governor David Ige is the fifth child in a family of six. His family is of Japanese-American descent.
Both parents worked part-time, which meant that they had to learn how to take care of themselves at a young age.
He did not receive superior treatment because he was one of the youngest, as everyone should have done their part.
While they weren’t doing well, they had everything they needed.
His parents worked hard all their lives, teaching him a lot about the importance of having a solid work ethic.

He lived in Hawaii all his life

He grew up in Pearl City, and in his childhood, the area was mostly full of sugar cane grounds.
His family had settled in the zone because his grandparents worked on the sugar plantations.
He finished his school career in the district and was in the Little League for Eight(8) yrs.
He was exiting a place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology but was denied entry to Hawaii.
His love of the state-led him to devote himself to politics and why he would like to leave a legacy of his time as governor.

He met his wife in college

While studying at the Hawaii University, he met his wife, Dawn. He told Civil Beat it was her laugh that first drew her.
She said she had a great sense of humor and knew life with him would never be boring.
The couple married after they both graduated from high school and had three children.
Your children now all have careers to live in on the mainland, but the family remains actual close
Dawn has attended many occasions alongside Governor Ige in her role as First Lady, and it’s a job she was happy to undertake.

David Ige Hawaii Governor has served in the Hawaii State Senate for twenty years

He served in the Hawaii State Council for twenty (20) years. According to Information Cradle, she chaired nine different committees during that period.
He has continuously had a particular interest in telecommunications and education. He was also a part of Hawaii’s efforts to create a more diverse economy.
In that two decades, in 2002 and 2012, he only faced two re-elections and easily won both.

President Trump appointed him to the board of governors

He is the co-chair of the bipartisan panel of governors and has been assigned president Trump’s role.
Hutchison of the Republican Party is the former co-chair. The council’s role is to assist the federal government by overseeing the National Guard’s actions and other home defense areas.
Over three hundred thousand military personnel, in Hawaii, makes the state central to any defense discussion.
